James Dukes Elementary is one of the most distinguished elementary schools in San Diego County. Our reputation of academic excellence is one that we are proud to continue. High expectations are reflected in our numerous achievements. James Dukes Elementary was a California Distinguished School, recognized by Governor Davis as a high performing school and has an award winning Parent Teacher Association.
James Dukes Elementary located in northeast San Diego within the community of San Diego Country Estates of Ramona, California. It is nestled in the foothills of the Vallecito and Santa Maria Mountains, surrounded by the Cleveland National Forest. San Diego Country Estates is a geographically isolated community that is composed of professional, skilled and semi-skilled workers. The school has a low mobility rate with most families living in single family, owner occupied homes.
Understanding differences and treating all with dignity is a cornerstone of our school's philosophy, and our students participate in a strong character education program. Our student council is the largest and most active organization in its history, and focuses on providing students with civic opportunities to be community leaders.
We proudly house the only elementary Moderate/Severe Special Education program in Ramona, and our students in this program are engaged in the general education environment. Every young Coyote at James Dukes is expected to perform at his or her very best.
James Dukes has a valued tradition of strong parent involvement. Our PTA and staff coordinate activities that cultivate a sense of family within our school community. The school is a focal point in the neighborhood that supports a variety of community partnerships.
We've implemented a Board-approved schedule to enhance teaching and learning. Each elementary school in our district follows the same bell schedule with a start time of 7:45 and ending bell is at 1:51 each day. James Dukes Elementary is a dynamic school with committed professionals who are passionate about teaching, students who are excited about learning and parents who are supportive and actively involved.
